GNCH Learning and Activities

GNCH Learning and Activities

By Newcastle Bridges
14 December, 2020

Newcastle Bridges School teaches children in the GNCH for up to one hour a day, Monday to Friday. We teach all children of statutory school age, of all abilities from P-Levels to GCSE, who are in hospital for at least three days. Newcastle Bridges School aims to support all pupils to achieve their potential, inspire a love of learning and to minimise disruption to their education. We provide a high quality education whilst overcoming barriers to learning posed by a variety of medical conditions. We contact children’s home school to find out what their peers are studying. We work on these topics with the young people so that they feel connected with their home school. We cover Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Art, Craft, P.E. and topics to engage and motivate them. Children with additional needs follow an individualised, sensory-based curriculum. We keep a record of all work completed and send this information to the child’s school. We communicate with parents and other professionals to ensure learning experiences are in line with pupil’s current needs. These photographs represent just some of the activities the children complete:

Isla enjoys the frosty morning

By Newcastle Bridges
26 January, 2021

Some days we just need something to lift our spirits. My beautiful dog Isla never fails me, she finds joy in everything she does. Here she is simply enjoying playing in the frost. If this makes you smile keep it going for the day. When we get back to normal feel free to come and visit her. For those wanting some education...... She is six years old, a flat coat retriever. She needs lots of exercise and free running. She adores water and swims in the River Tyne daily, even when it is iced over. She loves our cat 'Boots', helping to wash him daily. She also spends time with our mad Border collie having 'zoomies' in the fields.
